Qestions about Me and Mr. Mah (by Evelyn)

1. What does the author mean when she writes,
(1 )“The yard was a moonscape. . . ”
There was no any plant in the yard, as infertile as the moonscape.

(2) “Mom tornadoed around the house . . .” She was busy moving in the furniture. She didn’t want Ian to make any troble.

(3) “I made myself as small as I felt.” His mother was busy, and he had just moved to a new place. No one could talk with him. And it looks like that he really missed his Dad. He might feel that the whole world ignored him.

(4) Mr. Mah’s garden was a knee-high jungle.” Mr. Mah’s garden was full of life.

6. Why do you think Mr. Mah did not accept the tractor when Ian offered to give it to him?
He said that his box was for Chinese memories. But I think that Mr. Mah knew how important the tractor was to Ian. He couldn’t take it from Ian.

9. Talk about a time when you experienced the beginning of a new friendship. How did that friendship begin – what happened?
When I just graduated from elementary school and went to junior high, leaving all the things that were familiar to me, I knew no one. But one day, a girl in class 11th waved her hand to me on the hallway. I was so happy about that. From then on, we became good friends. It has been 3 years, I still remember that day clearly.
