flo q&a

5.Why do you think Mr. Mah call Ian “Yan” which means, “wild goose” in Chinese?

Yan is a kind of birds like the picture on the book. It is free to go anywhere. It can go anywhere it wants.Ian moved to a city.It is far from his father's farm.Just like "Yan",he flew to a far place.I think that's why Mr.Mah called him like that.

6. Why do you think Mr. Mah did not accept the tractor when Ian offered to give it to him?

Their special boxes are important for them.Things inside are their treasury, so they would put them in the box.Tractor is meaningful to Ian, so is Mr.Mah's small ball.Nobody will give his treasury to others unless they are best friend.

Qestions about Me and Mr. Mah (by Evelyn)

1. What does the author mean when she writes,
(1 )“The yard was a moonscape. . . ”
There was no any plant in the yard, as infertile as the moonscape.

(2) “Mom tornadoed around the house . . .” She was busy moving in the furniture. She didn’t want Ian to make any troble.

(3) “I made myself as small as I felt.” His mother was busy, and he had just moved to a new place. No one could talk with him. And it looks like that he really missed his Dad. He might feel that the whole world ignored him.

(4) Mr. Mah’s garden was a knee-high jungle.” Mr. Mah’s garden was full of life.

6. Why do you think Mr. Mah did not accept the tractor when Ian offered to give it to him?
He said that his box was for Chinese memories. But I think that Mr. Mah knew how important the tractor was to Ian. He couldn’t take it from Ian.

9. Talk about a time when you experienced the beginning of a new friendship. How did that friendship begin – what happened?
When I just graduated from elementary school and went to junior high, leaving all the things that were familiar to me, I knew no one. But one day, a girl in class 11th waved her hand to me on the hallway. I was so happy about that. From then on, we became good friends. It has been 3 years, I still remember that day clearly.

ME and Mr. Mah

Dear to the people in TaiWan,
Ian just moved to Canada and he doesn't know anyone, but he gets to know Mr. Mah. Mr. Mah gave him some seeds so that he can plant in his yard. Until Ian got to go to meet Mr. Mah and Mr. Mah told him about his wife, and Ian didn't know that so he told him about his parents slpit up. And Mr. Mah started to hang out with Ian more and told him about his culture in China. Both Mr. Mah and Ian had a special box but they didn't know until Mr. Mah showed Ian and Ian showed Mr. Mah. Mr. Mah took Ian to the graveyard where he buried his wife. Mr. Mah said Ian's name in China and Mr. Mah changed it to Yan.

It's marlin again

how do you think me and mr.mah was I thought itn was nice of Mr.mah to invite ian and how he took him place and shared story, tea, lost of love, box, and seeds to plant's.

Me and Mr.Mah

I think it is a touching story.Mr.Mah and the boy are good friends though they come from differen cultures, and Mr.Mah is much older than the boy. But,I'm more curious about the dragon bowls and the tea cups with the dragon pictures. The dragon used to symbolize the emperors or good luck in chinese culture! It's a pity that they are not common in Taiwan.Maybe,a culture will be known when it is put with another culture.

Me and Mr. Ma (by Grace)

I feel touched after reading the story. The story is full of warmth. I think it's very special to have such a good friend whose age is older than you so much. At the beginning, the boy feels lonely because he couldn't be used to the new environment and he missed his Dad so much.

He is a poor kid, I think .... but he made friends with a nice Chinese old man, Mr. Ma ''
They exchange their culture features and also tell each other their mind. Mr. Ma also showed Ian the secret box which he loved so much.

Later, Ian's mom bought a house near his new school, so he had to move away.
Ian and Mr. Ma are both sad to leave each other. One day, Ian found a box which is very very similar to Mr. Ma's. So, he became nervous and wondered that if anything happened to Mr. Ma.
And his mom took him back to find Mr. Ma. Fortunately, it's just a misunderstanding of Mr. Ma's daughter. So Ian met Mr. Ma again, and looked at each other in the eye and enjoy the friendship they cherish so much.

friendship

Hello!everybody,
Now I'm going to share my feelings with you after reading the book. It's a fantastic story. They ignored their age to be friend and told their experence of different culture to the other. They broke the wall in their hearts and made friends with a foreign stranger. They showed their boxes of memory to each other. The box is the most precious thing they had.Everyone might have a cherished thing which is important to us.Maybe it's a bracelet that link two people's hearts.YY

Me and Mr.Mah ))OVI

It's a touching story, and I think Mr.Mah was more than just a friend for the boy.He was one of his family.Boxes played an important in this story, they symbolized people's unforgetable memories and the friendship between Mr.Mah the boy.Mr.Mah kept the boy from being alone and gave him the biggest support when he was getting used to his parents' divorce as well.
I want to thank Ms.Lee for giving us such a heart-stirring book,I really learned a lot from it!

Me & Mr. Mah ((by Lisa))

Even Though Ian's parents had split, and moved to city with his mother, he could still be happy with his new neighbor, Mr. Mah. They told their stories to each other, soon, they became best friends.
I love the part of the end, it's touched. Fortuately, Ian found Mr. Mah's memory box which had valuable memories in the second-hand store. If not, Mr. Mah could have felt depressed, i think.

Me and Mr. Mah (by Evelyn)

It seems that all of you are very busy. No one posts about the new story.~

First, parents' divorcee always hurts the child. Apparently, the boy was lonely after moving to a new place with his mom. All he could do was to play with the tiny tractor from his father.
Luckily, his neighbor, a kind Chinese old man, chatted with him, taught him how to plant the beautiful sunflowers, and showed him his"box of memory". Though one was old and the other was young, they had happy time together.
I think the bright sunflower might symbolize the warmth between the old man and the child
And did you notice that in the last page: the boy was wearing the Chinese hat, not his green cap.

jenny

i think these are some ways jenny can prove herself: 1. start something and keep going with it and not quit. 2. listen to other mouses talking. 3. she thinks befor she talks!

Hi it's marlin

what did you think of the book? I thought it was good and bouncer is a bad leader. Jenny should have been leader because she talks through the planes and gets it right.

heres alliecat

BOUNCER

Bouncer is bossy
Boucer is rude
Bouncer should not be the leader!
Jenny is nice
Jenny can stop and thank

hi what do you think of Jenny?

hi it is lexy (spicy) what do you think about Jenny??? i think she should be the leader. she is responsible and thinks about what she will do!!!

responsibilitys!

bouncer doesn't want to take responsibility of anything because he is mean, strangem, and bossy!!!!!!

Bouncer

Hi, it's me, Petar. I do not think that bouncer would make a good leader, because he is bossy, and he gives up easily, (he does not want to accept responsibility for his own actions in case something goes wrong, and he gets blamed.) and he thinks he is more important than everyone else. I wonder why no one dissagreed with him.

Q&A Skog's island

1.Bouncer wanted to stay and fight for freedom and Jenny wanted to leave and go find a peaceful island. How do you feel about what Bouncer wanted to do and how do you feel about Jenny’s suggestion?
I think Bouncer is too hip-shooting.If they decided to stay and fight for freedom, they would be eaten by cats before they started to attack.I like Jenny's idea(even it's not practical). Some mice sailed the ship and go to look for an island to survive. It sounds a little ridiculous in the truth. But it's an adventure for mice in the story.
2.How did Bouncer become the Captain of the ship?
He claimed that he was the leader of the group and thought it for granted. He didn't ask the others' opinion. He just wanted to be the lord of the mice.
3.When they learned that they had been sailing toward the North Pole, Bouncer announced that he would quit being the Captain. Why did Bouncer decided to take control again when they reached the Island of the Skog?
He didn't have any responsibility. He just wanted to be a controler and didn't want to face the difficulties. He only wanted to enjoy the power of the king.

4.Think about the part in the story where Bouncer says, “We will build a great kingdom dedicated to the freedom of mice, and I will be the king!” What are your ideas?
I like the front of the sentence. It means every free mouse can live here to enjoy the peaceful life.
5.At the end of the story, Bouncer tells everyone to line up and they will sing and he will lead music. Why does the author have Bouncer do this at the end of the book?

The auther wants to make a happy ending. It looks like that everyone deals with others happily.
6.Write you own question about the story. Begin your question with, “Why…?”

Why does the skog live on the island alone?Does it go to the island for the same goal with mice?
7.Here is one question from Jalen: “Why did the mice wear so big costumes?”

It is more comfortable and they dress as human-beings to show their personalities and activities.
8.Another question from Ms. Lee: In some book reviews they started their comments by saying “Jenny and her city-mouse friends searched for a peaceful place to live.” Why is Jenny, instead of Bouncer, viewed as the leading character?
Bouncer is too bossy and doesn't have any responsibility.Jenny is smart and more friendly.

The QandA about Island of the Skog (by Evelyn)

1.Bouncer was an active mice. He would like to FIGHT. And Jenny was peace-loving. She chose to leave. There's no right or wrong with these two ways. They were both tring to solve their problem.

2.He volunteered to do so .

3.Bouncer would like to quit because he did'nt do his job well. (He brought them to the NORTH POLE!) And when they finally got to the island, it meant that they were safe again, of course Bouncer would like to get his power back. In short, Bouncer just didn't want to take the responsibility.

4.A country of freedom needs no king.

5.Maybe the author meant that ''Bouncer is still the leader.'' I'm not pretty sure. It's only my guess.

7.I didnt notice this. Maybe those mouse got cold easily.

8.Jenny first came up with the idea ''to sail for a peaceful place.'' And she always had a plan to solve the problem. Take ''how to deal with the monster'' for example, Jenny knew how they could do and was willing to give it a try. Actually, Jenny was the real leader. And Bouncer was just the one who ''gave orders.''

More about ISLAND OF THE SKOG

Q1. Bouncer wanted to stay and fight for freedom and Jenny wanted to leave and go find a peaceful island. How do you feel about what Bouncer wanted to do and how do you feel about Jenny’s suggestion?

I think Bouncer's idea might be too dangerous, because their emenies are all bigger than them , and, of course, they're not afraid of mice!!!Theredore, I think Jenny's suggestion seems to be more safer.

Q2.How did Bouncer become the Captain of the ship?

He was of his own free will, and no one againsted.

Q3.When they learned that they had been sailing toward the North Pole, Bouncer announced that he would quit being the Captain. Why did Bouncer decide to take control again when they reached the Island of the Skog?

I think he's a little fake and is't a responsible mouse. He just want to be the most powerful person but don't want to in charge of any diffcult job. That's not a good model for us to learn.

O4.Think about the part in the story where Bouncer says, “We will build a great kingdom dedicated to the freedom of mice, and I will be the king!” What are your ideas?

Like I said in the third question, he always wnat to be the biggest one and to put the others up to wait on him.

Q5.At the end of the story, Bouncer tells everyone to line up and they will sing and he will lead music. Why does the author have Bouncer do this at the end of the book?

The author just want to let Bouncer's "Leader" dream come true.

Q6.Write you own question about the story. Begin your question with, “Why…?”

Why does the author can think up such fun story, and why the author make mice be the leading character of this book?

Q7.Here is one question from Jalen: “Why did the mice wear so big costumes?”

I think it's because they're just like us , they need beautiful dress to make themselves more beautiful.

Q8.Another question from Ms. Lee: In some book reviews they started their comments by saying “Jenny and her city-mouse friends searched for a peaceful place to live.” Why is Jenny, instead of Bouncer, viewed as the leading character?

For me, Jenny is like a mother among the mice , and Bouncer just like a naughty little kid.

Island of the Skog(Q&A)

1.Bouncer wanted to stay and fight for freedom and Jenny wanted to leave and go find a peaceful island. How do you feel about what Bouncer wanted to do and how do you feel about Jenny’s suggestion?

If Bouncer had fighted for the Freedom, the mice would have died. Because the mice were too small and too weak to fight with the cat or even humans. Jenny's suggestion would be great. If she hadn't found the island, the mice would have never met Skog, and live on a peaceful land.

2.How did Bouncer become the Captain of the ship?

He volunteered to be the Captain of the ship, and no one said the second words

3.When they learned that they had been sailing toward the North Pole, Bouncer announced that he would quit being the Captain. Why did Bouncer decide to take control again when they reached the Island of the Skog?

Another selfish thoughts. He thought he could be the king of the Island of the Skog if he controlled the ship again.

4.Think about the part in the story where Bouncer says, “We will build a great kingdom dedicated to the freedom of mice, and I will be the king!” What are your ideas?

It's not a good thought. Everyone worked as hard as it can, so everyone could be the king of the new land.

5.At the end of the story, Bouncer tells everyone to line up and they will sing and he will lead
music. Why does the author have Bouncer do this at the end of the book?

Although Bouncer is selfish, but author thinks Bouncer has the ability of leading. Maybe he can lead the band, i think.

6.Write you own question about the story. Begin your question with, “Why…?”

Why every one agreed Bouncer to be the captain at first, and no one disagreed him?

7.Here is one question from Jalen: “Why did the mice wear so big costumes?”

I don't really know. I think the mice were strong enough to wear that huge costumes.

8.Another question from Ms. Lee: In some book reviews they started their comments by saying “Jenny and her city-mouse friends searched for a peaceful place to live.” Why is Jenny, instead of Bouncer, viewed as the leading character?

Bouncer is too selfish, he never cares every one's feelings. So the writer viewed Jenny as a leading character.

The Island of Skog--deeper extension

Q: Bouncer wanted to stay and fight for freedom and Jenny wanted to leave and go find a peaceful island. How do you feel?

I think they have different opinions due to their characteristics. Jenny thinks that it's hard for them to survive in the city, so she wanted to find a better island and leaded a wonderful life there. As for Bouncer, in my opinion, he had great ambition for many things, I admire this. But it isn't always easy to fight with the reao life.

Q: At the end of the story, Bouncer tells everyone to line up and they will sing and he will lead music. Why does the author have Bouncer do this at the end of the book?

In my opinion, this action(singing national anthem)symbolized they would set up a country of themselves.

The Question from Jalen: ''Why di the mice wear so big costumes?"

Wow! What a nice question@@ I think they wear big clothes just because it's.............................CUTE^^

Island Of The SKOG ((OVI

I like this book,it is't very long but fun.And the are amazing, too. But I still don't know what "SKOG" is,I think every one have the same problem as me.From the pictures, it seems like a kind of duckbill!!But it's quite cute.I also like the mice in the story, they're just like us,they'll celebrate some special days, they wear clothes, they can write and they can even ride a boat!If I can have a pet mouse like this, that would be so great.Wish them can live a happy life with the shy Skog on the island forever!

about the book

(((i',m LIsa)))
i think Skog is cute, even i don't know what it is.
this is a great book!Good pictures and words. there's a mouse in the story (bounser?) , i think it was snotty and selfish. At first it wanted to be captain, but it quit at last. Finally they arrived the island, he wanted to be the king!!Dont you think it was selfish?
But the end is pretty, Skog and every mouse were friends.

i loved the book! i think the book is very funny! HOW do you like the book? what is your faveret carecter? mine is bonucer!

I LOVE BONUCER!!!!

"Hi"It's Alliecat Again

Hi it's Allie again. I really liked the book because I really like animals. The story is based on animals. I did not like Bouncer the fat mouse because he was selfish and greedy.

About the book

Hi my name is Dog we read a book I dont rember the name but it was a good book I liked boncer
but he is a littel mean but he is my favorat cariktor in the book.he was funey.
I DONT LIKE BOUNSER
i love the book!! did you???? i thought it was funny!!

scog island

I think "Scog Island'' is about mice that think there is a BIG monster on the island. So the mice blast the canons . I would be scared to if someone was blasting my home. I think that bouncer is a little bossey and selfish.

The island of Skog

I like this book very much cause its pictures are so cute. Actually, I'm not quite understand this book, but I think the book want us to trust people and make friend with them. Skog is actually a good guy, he just doesn't want his home to be disturbed. So, we should open our mind to make friends with others next time

The island of skog

I like the mice in this book. I think these mice are very cute, and the pictures in this book are very beautiful. I wish I could draw the pictures like that. I didn't know many words in this book, but I could know the meanings by the pictures. Though I don't know many words, I like this story very much. This story is very interesting.

The island of skog

We are just like skog in a new place with new people that we never met before. We should open our mind to make friends with new people. That way,we can know a lot of new friends. Some friends even can be our intimates. We can share our feelings with them. No matter it's sad or happy. Our confidants will always be with us.
I like this story very much. The pictures in it are so cute and the story is very interesting. The mice want to send the monster away, so they use a"KITE" to accomplish it. It's a mission impossible in the real world.

Just Be Friendly!!

I think Bouncer should'nt bomb Skog's island with cannons. Then Skog wouldn't dress as a big monster. Anyway, we should be friendly to people around us. Sometimes, we don't like someone, but when we get to know about he or she, we'll found out that he or she is a really nice person!!

The island of the skog!!

Well...,there are many words I don't understand in the book. But I can realize the meaning by the pictures.Sometimes,we think others are mean and they may hurt ourselves though it is not the truth. And we may protect ourselves in no time. The reason is that we don't have any communications,so we may misunderstand others. We should avoid that happen.
By the way,the pictures in the book are very cute and beautiful. I very like it.

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

The Island Of Skog

Skog is afraid that "his" island might be occupied, so he tried to dress up as a horrid monster and scare the mice away. ...Mmm.... I think it just like our society. We often think that the person we don't know would pose threat to us, so we fight and defend to protect ourselves,..but such behavior would build a cold and high wall between you and the others.
So, instead of fighting and defending, we should open our mind, open our heart to accept new things and new ones in our life.

: )

Island of the Scog

Hi, it's Me, petar. I think the point of the story is that you should never judje somebody before you know them. I think the scog is some kind of minature ant eater. It made me think of kids being mean to each other.

The island of the skog.!!!!!

I thought about the book and I think that you shouldn't judge people because you don't know the and when you get to know them you still shouldn't judge because now they think that you their friend and they want to get to know you oh!!! I like the book!!!!!!!!!!.

BOSSY BOUNCER

I think bouncer is bossy. He thinks he is in control of everything.I think he is crazy.
